Black Friday Bargains

Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales have completely shifted the retail bargain season. Until recently, the season of big in-store discounts began with Boxing Day after Christmas, but now it kicks off on American Thanksgiving weekend. We're not complaining: it's now possible to plan your holiday gifts while taking advantage of attractive discounts on popular items, but the question remains: is Black Friday worth it?

The short answer is yes.

The reputation of the November sales is well established for game consoles, audiovisual equipment and other tech gadgets. The products most likely to be discounted are those with the highest profit margins. Televisions, vacuum cleaners and appliances fall into this category.

Black Friday is also a good time to renegotiate your cell phone and Internet package: providers take advantage of the pre-holiday slump to offer their lowest prices of the year.

Otherwise, according to information compiled by Protégez-Vous, the Black Friday sales also offer the best discounts on items such as espresso makers, mattresses and box springs, and exercise equipment.

Abundance and responsible choice?

Every year, the question arises as the Black Friday sales approach: isn't this consumer holiday paving the way for poor consumer choices?

The question arises, especially when we recall the terrifying images of fights as the doors of the big banners open to grab the biggest TV available on the floor.

It's important to remember that, despite the abundance of discounts on Black Friday, moderation is always the order of the day. Opting for better-quality, longer-lasting items, but at more competitive prices, is also a good strategy for tackling this festive period.

Last but not least, it's not just the big chains that are liquidating their inventories: small businesses have also followed in the footsteps of Black Friday, so buying local is now becoming an attractive option for consumers keen to reduce the impact of their purchases but still motivated by a good bargain!

Have a great holiday season!
